About Dr. McAleer

Therapy is not always easy to seek out, and finding the right therapist can be a challenge. With over a decade of experience working with individuals, couples, and families that are dealing with the many stressors that life brings about, Dr. Kelly McAleer believes that finding a good therapist shouldn’t be one of them.

Dr. McAleer is empathic, empowering, and relatable. She uses active listening and an integrative approach to meet each client where they are on their journey, providing support and skills with an easy going nature. She is open-minded and progressive, intent on helping all her clients feel comfortable with the therapy process.

Dr. McAleer is SOGI (Sexual Orientation Gender Identity) competent and believes that all abilities, religions, sexual orientations, races, and genders should feel comfortable in the therapeutic relationship. She is a strong supporter of human rights, civil rights, equity, and inclusion. Journey Psychological Services is inclusive and welcoming to all.

Education and Experience

Dr. McAleer has a Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology; she has worked with all age ranges, in a variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, private practices, clinics, and forensic institutions. Additionally, she was at the forefront of the use of telehealth services, providing teletherapy via confidential webcam sessions since 2014.

Dr. McAleer is fortunate to have many clients share their life stories and struggles with her, and as a result of her training and experience, she has developed comprehensive skills to treat a wide range of mental health issues, including: mood symptoms and disorders (depression/bipolar), anxiety, substance use problems, cutting/self-mutilation, trauma, psychosis*, antisocial behaviors, personality disorders, and sexual concerns.

In addition, Dr. McAleer works with people dealing with legal troubles, managing grief, going through life transitions, those seeking therapy for self-growth, individuals seeking conflict resolution and communication skills, and couples looking to repair, blend, or separate their relationships with assistance.

She also has experience working with the LGBTQ+ population, including those seeking therapy or support for gender transition issues and gender affirming medical procedures.
