Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy

At Journey Psychological Services, individual therapy is tailored to meet your specific needs. I will help you recognize underlying problems, fully realize your strengths, and adjust certain behaviors and thoughts to see things a different, healthier way.

I take a humanistic integrative approach to therapy –

As a humanistic therapist, I approach my role in your treatment as a guide. You are more than a diagnosis or list of symptoms. You are a whole human being and you know yourself better than anyone. Our therapy will explore the ways in which your behaviors, values, and beliefs align with your inner truth. Self-validation and self-compassion building will be a foundation in this part our work together. Each week in our sessions, I will meet you wherever you may be on your journey “to becoming,” providing support and skills with an easy going nature.

As an integrative therapist, I incorporate methods from across psychological treatments to best target your therapeutic concerns. Common treatment approaches we might use, along with the person centered therapy lens discussed above, include mindfulness based skills, internal family systems (IFS)/parts therapy, cognitive and behavioral techniques, dialectical behavior skills, interpersonal/attachment exploration, existential therapy, and acceptance building.

It is important to note that any treatment at Journey Psychological Services comes from a trauma informed approach. Trauma is prevalent in all areas of our society and it impacts all aspects of life when it occurs. Creating a safe space within your therapy session is a priority.

Ok…but will I like you?

And why does that even matter? Turns out it’s pretty important for you to like your therapist. While therapeutic methods like the ones listed above might seem like the most important consideration in choosing a therapist, research shows us that a strong therapeutic relationship is often the biggest factor in determining therapy success. That doesn’t mean that all those treatment methods aren’t helpful, it just means that you’re more likely to incorporate the treatment recommendations that come from a trusted provider vs. that therapist you have no rapport with and dread seeing every week.

Building and keeping rapport, establishing and maintaining trust, creating an empathic, validating space, and encouraging open communication is vital within this relationship from my perspective. A good memory on my part for all the details you share and a little humor every now and then doesn’t hurt either!

With all that being said, it can be hard to connect with words on a page to determine if I’m the best fit for your individual therapy needs, so, let’s set up a consultation!
